I have been curious about Chromebooks for a while, vacillating back and forth between "that looks pretty neat" and "it's too darn limited to be useful." Well, color me impressed. It does have limitations, for sure, but in practice, they are inconsequential. This has quickly become my go-to for meetings, freeing up my fancy-schmancy Microsoft Surface Book 2 to be our high-end Zoom host. The combination of a Chromebook and Google docs/sheets/mail is unbeatable, and everything just works. The thing is on before the lid even gets fully raised, and it's ready and raring to go with a quick PIN login. Does everything a little laptop needs to do, quickly, with no muss and no fuss. For me, it'll never replace my desktop machine - I've got several Windows-only programs that I depend on daily - but it's an excellent sidekick for notetaking and surfing. HP's screen is great; the keyboard is excellent; and the build quality is quite good. The webcam is fair-to-middling, with some odd shadows around the edges of the image, but that's easily rectified with an external webcam if it's important to you. The Core i3 is up to pretty much any task you might throw at it, since ChromeOS is so lightweight. I've never felt hindered by the hardware at all. Apparently there are lots of new Chromebooks hitting the market, so look around and see what you can find. You can get a whole lot of machine for a few hundred bucks!
